The purpose of the Hosanna Project experience is to struggle with and to address the serious theological problems which arise when the traditions of a religious community and its way of reading the scriptures assert that its members are somehow chosen, set apart, called or covenanted to be in a unique and specially privileged relationship with God to the exclusion of all others. These assertions have profoundly affected the self understanding, the relationships to those outside the religious community, and the attitudes and values of many within the Jewish, Christian and Muslim traditions across the centuries. This year we will focus on flipping the narrative surrounding Palestine. The workshop will prepare attendees to construct more authentic stories of the realities on the ground and speak to their local communities with honesty and urgency. Participants will come away with better media literacy and research skills, a wider grasp on doing good exegesis on the topic of Palestine, and the tools necessary to develop, write, and preach a sermon (or other project format) in their communities. All participants will be eligible to send in their project after the workshop for a chance at winning the 2025 Hosanna Preaching Project cash prize.
